Report: Oculus Ordered to Pay US$500M in ZeniMax Suit
Facebook-endemic virtual reality (VR) company Oculus has been ordered to pay United states$500 1000000 in damages to video game publisher ZeniMax Media for failing to comply with a non-disclosure agreement. The decision came after jury deliberated for 2 and a half days on a verdict, according to Polygon. They also said Oculus did not misappropriate ZeniMax merchandise secrets, equally the publisher had claimed. The spat dates back to 2022 when ZeniMax sued the virtual reality house for misappropriating trade secrets, breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and unfair competition.
According to the complaint, former employee John Carmack started corresponding with Oculus VR Founder, Palmer Luckey, in Apr 2022, when the Oculus Rift had been 'a rough prototype'.
Luckey gave Carmack an early version of the Rift "and Carmack and other ZeniMax personnel added numerous improvements to the prototype," the complaint said. "Together, those ZeniMax employees literally transformed the Rift past calculation physical hardware components and developing specialised software for its operation."
Despite the victory, ZeniMax is seeking a lot more: in endmost arguments, the company's lawyer said it should win Usa$four billion in bounty and punitive amercement, Polygon noted. Oculus's attorney said ZeniMax is just embarrassed and jealous.
Facebook and ZeniMax did not immediately answer to requests for comment.
